Careers in Photography: Professions That Gaze Upon Beauty

Capturing beauty in a photograph, wherever we can find it, is the main objective on all careers in photography. The subjects may vary greatly, depending on each career that a student chooses for himself, but the objective remains much the same. All photographers live by a rule. That rule is neither academic nor clearly stated. That rule is analogous to beauty.

In all forms of photography, beauty supersedes everything else. Beauty can be found in a plant, a flower or a tree. It can be portrayed in a landscape, a cityscape, or a nightscape. It can be present in every little things, too, like bugs, blades of grasses, and pebbles. It can be something massive and structural, such as a building or any type of man-made architecture. Beauty can be depicted by a man or a woman, a model, a child, or even an old, wrinkled person. It can be represented by a leathery hand—with skin so rugged and fingers so crooked in a way which signifies year after year of hard labor.

In retrospect, each of those little facets that can embody beauty is a form of art all by itself.

Careers in photography looking for perfection

Art, in photography, is possible through many professions. Like I said, beauty can be seen in many things. Similarly, the careers in photography may pertain to many vocations as well. It could be fashion or wedding photography, in clothing magazines, in the limelight of attention of the media. It may be in the modeling industry, where your subject is almost always the perfection of the human body. Likewise, it could be in the car manufacturing industry. There are endless numbers of eyes eager to see the slickest and latest car brands. In fact, auto photography is one of the highest paying gigs for a photographer nowadays, next to working with top models and media.

In the entertainment industry, the profession is very invaluable. People with careers in photography almost always find themselves in the middle of the hottest issues, surrounded by the press. In a way, they define the trends, the latest fashion, and the latest gossips about artists and models, with their photographs. Media and fashion photography is probably the hardest field to break through, but the hardships are well worth it. The cash, as well as the reputation, you will receive if you happen to be successful at it is like a dream come true.

On another note, with so many different careers in photography, people usually find themselves quite confused. They are unable to choose which one to go for. They can’t really decide whether to take a picture of a beautiful prairie, or try to catch a pop star on profile. In that mid-confusion, many of them simply find resolve in being a freelance photographer.

A freelancer, in nearly all kinds of profession, has the most freedom to choose what he wishes to do with his time. A freelance photographer manages himself. He may work with others one day, and then sell his individual works the next day. He sees no limit to the things he can do. This way, he is able to put the appreciation of beauty above making money.

Are careers in photography seen as serious professions?

Few people see this profession as worthwhile. But what’s important is that these few people are happy with what they do. They are content because they are able to work with beauty and at the same time earn a living. Any other person would either see eye-to-eye with them, or totally not understand them.

In summary we could say that though there are many different kinds of photographers, all of them still revolve on a single most important thing: portraying the beauty of everything. That could also be a nice summary of the beauty of careers in photography.
